Following the new moon, I am working on qabalistic planetary tinctures.
I am gathering the corresponding number of herbs and/or stones that I might have on hand for each sephera and creating on the correct hour and day. According to my research, they have to sit for a minimum of 2 weeks. I’m playing around with the idea of somehow working more correspondance in there somehow but I might just stick with 28 days-the moon cycle for all of them.
Most tinctures, according to information that I am getting from others, are usually one herb and made to consume in water or wine. Mine (at least these I’m currently working on) will NOT be able to be ingested. Having to work with what I have on hand, not all the herbs I’m adding are non-toxic so these tinctures will be used in anointing objects, creating magickal inks, and any other way I can figure out to boost workings and meditations.
Now that I have begun and put more thought into it, I will start a few consumable ones. I’ll use those as I do personal work through the Qabalistic spheres, attuning vibrationally to each planet and seeing how each affects my work. I KNOW I’m going to start with a solar one.
Today is the 15th day of the 1st month of the 1st year Anno Luceferi according to the Book of Peter Vaughn. For me, at least, it is a major Holiday. Those who follow a LHP system of beliefs know that Self and the development of is extremely important. It is with this outlook that I declare the 15th day of the 1st month of subsequent years as the Epiphany of Naufragio.
In definition epiphany means:
an appearance or manifestation, esp. of a deity.
a sudden, intuitive perception of or insight into the reality or essential meaning of something, usually initiated by some simple, homely, or commonplace occurrence or experience.
And so, being the day of manifestation in this mortal coil 39 short years ago, I think it an appropriate title for the first holiday of the new Era. Be forewarned, 15:1:2 is foretold to be a date of extreme change. More on this later.
As a note: This is the coldest week all winter with below zero (F) temperatures. The snow is piled high.

Snow last night off my porch.
I have set up a small elemental tarot altar (in hopes of making divination a larger part of my regular spiritual practice). These are the cards drawn today. Sorry for it being so dark, the batteries died in my camera. If I get a better one I’ll replace this one later.

For some time now I have been musing on the ideas of Left Hand and Right Hand Paths. If you look it up on wikipedia (NOT a great source by the way but one EVERYONE goes to first it seems) It gives you a glossy basic description. In short it comes down to this:
- Advancement of self vs. advancement of spirituality
- Seeking material or “terrestrial” goals vs. observance of strict moral codes of deprivation
- Becoming “akin” to Gods vs. blind faith and obedience to a higher power
- Exoteric- leading to flexible moral codes vs. Esoteric beliefs in divine retribution, karma, 3-fold law
- You are your salvation, here and now vs. belief in divine salvation for the worthy and damnation for others
The history given of the use of the terms is basic and incomplete and although mentions the Hindu Tantric history, doesn’t go deep enough into the concept of “Varma-Marga” (Left-Path) where there is a clear definition and not the watery connotation “Left-Hand Path” has developed in Western practice. It is an approach to and liberating force of spiritual awakening that dates back for over 2000 years.
Stephen Flowers in his book entitled “Lords of the Left Hand Path” describes the “criteria for becoming one of those Lords:
This first criterion will be seen to have four distinct elements: 1) Self-deification—attainment of an enlightened (or awakened), independently existing intellect and its relative immortality. 2) Individualism—the enlightened intellect is that of a given individual, not a collective body 3) Initiation—the enlightenment and strength of essence necessary for the desired state of evolution of self are attained by means of stages created by the will of the magician, not because he or she was “divine” to begin with. 4) Magic- practitioners of the left-hand path see themselves as using their own wills in a rationally intuited system or spiritual technology designed to cause the universe around them to conform to their self-willed patterns.
Initiation is through the deliberate violation of social and internal taboos to separate one from normal values and extend one’s experiences and expand one’s inner power and strength. It is about BECOMING. Becoming you to your full ability, awakening the unconscious within yourself and understanding what drives you. It is going against the orthodoxy which in itself is that heard mentality and not needing to think. I love the statement by the Schrecks in their book “Demons of the Flesh” :
“In this sense, the left hand path represents deliberate heresy against the dominant culture of the practitioner.”
It is seen as dangerous to social control and religious dogma and so has been frowned upon because it leads you to question, to explore, to reach into and beyond yourself and everything around you. Yes, it even is seen as “Evil” for these same reasons. I’m not saying that there aren’t other reasons that lead the left to be seen as the bad side. The classical world has long considered the left side as unlucky. In fact, there is a linguistic connection between the “left” and “sinister”. Long in the Arab world, the left hand would be used to wipe after deficating (since the right hand was the primarily dominant hand) and it would be discusting to eat or shake hands with that hand. The right hand was considered the “clean” and therefor more Godly hand.
As for the ultimate goal of the follower of a left hand path religion and how it differs from right hand followers, it is a matter of being or blending. The right hand follower believes that each individual will merge within the cosmic whole and become part of it. “All is one”. The Left hand believer however seeks to seperate themselves from the universal mish mash and stand above.
One of the control mechanisms which has been used on thetans is that when they rise in potential they are led to believe themselves one with the universe. This is distinctly untrue. Thetans are individuals. They do not, as they rise up the scale, merge with other individualities. They have the power of becoming anything they wish while still retaining their own individuality. They are first and foremost themselves. There is evidently no Nirvana. It is the feeling that one will merge and lose his own individuality that restrains the thetan from attempting to remedy his lot. His merging with the rest of the universe would be his becoming matter. This is the ultimate in cohesiveness and the ultimate in affinity, and is at the lowest point of the Tone Scale. One declines into a brotherhood with the universe. When he goes up scale, he becomes more and more an individual capable of creating and maintaining his own universe.

This “sinister current” as it is sometimes referred to seeks to evolve humanity to the next level and the next. Because of the individualistic nature, this path is not suited for everyone. It does not work well for those weak in character or fearful of confrontation in most cases. Everyone has a different disposition and nature. Then, of course, you have to be brave enough to break out of that heard animal mentality and question everything and confront it. Embrace life, your body, your environment, the world as the means to illumination.
Here is my own personal stumbling stone with the left hand path. I’m not sure I have the fortitude to persist and break those taboos that chain me to the ground and keep me from rising above. I’m not a confrontational person. Not that I’m not dangerous in my own right if angered, don’t think for a second that I’m a puff ball, but I know I will have roadblocks that will be difficult for me to pass through. I suppose if it were easy then the path would suit any namby pamby that wanted to come off as a “Baddy” to others. I know of many methods I want to try and actually have thought about crossing those lines many times before, just haven’t had the availability of assistance. I’ve long known that the only way to progress personally is to experience and push boundaries. Maybe I will fit in just fine.
I have suddenly become aware of the “fluffy” turn of my posts. I apologize. As entertaining as they are, I have fallen back on them in lieu of sitting down and writing out something more meaningful.
What I have been up to.
I recently wrote out (bit and pieced together) a ritual to cleanse and clear the house and to set up talisman protection for the entryways. It was long (although I dropped one part) and I think it went really well. There seemed to be an almost immediate result from it the next day when we completed the final working but it wasn’t what was expected. Maybe it didn’t have anything to do with it at all but it was awfully coincidental in it’s timing. For those who are interested in writing a similar ritual, this is how mine was composed:
1) A cleansing of space – First physically clean the house. Then research cleansing methods. Some involve floor washes, some involve even wiping down the walls with a special “potion” and others just a simple smudging. I let salt absorb negativity in the corners of every room for a day prior then smudged and used the sound of bells to clear out anything room by room. As I passed through the rooms (being careful to not pass through a non-clean room into a clean one) I sealed doors, windows and mirrors with Pentagrams and/or protection oil. On the doors or doorframes, I wrote protective runes in the oil.
2) Blessing and balancing the positive – To me, it made sense from my research that once the negative was out, it could leave an unbalance or an empty space void of energies. To regain that balance and introduce positive energy, I blessed or consecrated the rooms with salt water and a little prayer/blessing. You can also invoke deities of protection and happiness and burn a protective incense at this time as well.
3) Protection – Once I had a clear, blessed home, I added another level of protection by infusing objects with protective energy and placing them near entryways. You can find out how to do this by researching Talisman and Amulet creation. This part can immediately follow the above or be done later. If directly following, I don’t see the need for the usual circle casting that I would do if I managed it as a separate working. The entire space is already cleared, blessed and protected. You may cast one if you would like though. Part of mine was letting an offertory candle burn down. It was late so we had to “close down” the working before bed for safety and continued it in the morning. Once the objects were in place the whole ritual was complete.
Some may wonder why my posts are so general and vague. I will not post specifics on most of my magick here in the public eye. I have a book of shadows that I am working on as my experience increases and that is for those I work closely with only. There is such a variety in paths and beliefs that I feel it’s important to work with what feels right to you. I can tell you to call upon the power of Anubis, but if your pantheon isn’t Egyptian, then it won’t feel right or resonate in your soul and it will diminish your work. If you have studied long, then you will know what words and methods work for you. If you are beginning then I absolutely recommend researching and reading what others use and say and take what fits in your heart and mind as beautiful and effective. I always find things that I have written in that I thought would be good are sometimes awkward or long winded in practice so don’t worry about getting it perfect on paper the first time.
Some have been following my preparations for a big working. Well, I didn’t say so right away, but it’s done.
It didn’t go as well as I had hoped. I forgot to light certain candles that I had intended and dropped an added element that I was going to do at the same time and kill 2 birds with one stone so to speak. Now I’ll have to do another working for that. And I’m concerned that my focus was not where it should have been. I was too focused on the ritual itself I think (and yet I STILL didn’t get it all right) and I’m not sure if I raised enough energy.
This is so new to me that I’m not really sure how it should “feel”. Oh well. The act of performing the ritual myself, the LBRP out loud and all is all part of experience. Many of the Magicians I speak with have been working stuff for 10 years or more, here I am barely a year into serious development. I’m doing ok, I think and more will only come in time and with practice.
I’m not going to say anything else right now, still too soon. Keep an eye out in the future when I might post more details.
In my previous post, I shared my thoughts on the Magickal journal, and its importance. Lets work together here and create a servitor, and we’ll go through the various steps and I’ll share how I would record the process. It’s important to note that this particular servitor is NOT my own creation; she was created by a Magician on the Earthsong Forums; I’m merely using her as an example. She’s already been created and I presume hard at work. Feel free to use her sigil in your own workings.
Let’s create a servitor to make a person lucky in lotteries and in gambling. Here is a Magickal Entry as I would make it (with some basic explanations added for clarity):
Hour: Hour of Sun (good for speculations, prosperity, success)
Weather: Clear & Warm.
Emotions: Hopeful, powerful.
Moon phase: Waxing Moon.
Performance: (include general notes on how well I performed the ritual).
Results: (to be determined).
Statement of Intent: Produce a big and substantial lottery win.
Name of Entity: After re-arranging the first letter of each word in our statement of intent into a more pleasing order, adding a vowel or two, and adding the letters “el” at the end to aid in pronunciation (in great Qabbalistic tradition), we get the name of our servitor: PABASLEWEL.
Using the Golden Dawn Rose Cross, I will trace the letters of the servitors name into a sigil. This sigil will not only represent our servitor, but it will be a way to contact our deep mind, and also to actually evoke the servitor whenever we have need to contact her. After tracing the letters on the Rose Cross, we get our sigil, as shown here.
Appearance:
Now that we have her name and sigil created, we will want to flesh out her appearance, which can be anything you choose, but she should have some of her basic purpose incorporated into her looks. She appears as a feminine angel, winged. Her flesh is gold. On her forehead is a ruby stone, much like a third eye. Through this eye she has all knowledge of things related to lottery games, be it calculating statistics and chances or knowing the lottery numbers, and even manipulating the outcome in our favour. She has the ability to telekenetically influence which numbers are drawn in lotteries.
Sources of Energy & Feeding: She draws her power from the actual lottery and from all of the energy people invest within it. All of the hopes & dreams of the people buying the tickets and the energy of people anxiously waiting for the outcome. Primarily she draws from the element of Earth, although there are Mercury and Jupiter influences as well.
Summoning & Housing:
Thus ends my Magickal Record.
That’s about it. Obviously all of the nitty gritty details have been omitted, such as exact wordings, what I was wearing, etc. Ok, I was nakey.
The sigil is yours to use. Feel free to print it out, and give Pabaslewel your energy and see if she doesn’t work for you as well. Let me know of your results. But more importantly, tell your Magickal diary your results.
The practice of keeping a Magickal Diary is as old as dirt. We can see the old Grimoires in just about any book shoppe, and also online. The fascinating diaries of John Dee and Edward Kelly are being re-constructed and the originals are in the British Museum.
Aleister Crowley said that it was far better to fail at a Magickal ceremony than to fail to record it. The Magician’s diary is his chief asset. Recording what worked, and what didn’t, aids the Magician in all future workings. Imagine writing a ritual, and having spectacular results, and then failing to record it. In a year’s time you decide to repeat the Operation. But you never bothered to record the particulars: moon phase, weather, your mood, the day and hour of your working, etc. What then? This is the folly of Magick without method. And it lowers your Magick to the realm of guesswork. Your Magickal progress can be best analyzed through your own Magickal record. How else would you see your progress?
Many beginners are overwhelmed at the thought of keeping such a diary. They often ask what is proper to put into it. I always suggest that anything relevant to your Work and progress. I’ve seen Magickal diaries online that seem to have taken this concept to the extreme, practically recording each and every bowel movement or else they include any silly, stray thought that enters their minds.
Some have suggested keeping the diary on the computer. I once scoffed at the idea because if you ever find yourself w/out a computer for a time, it may present a problem. And yet, in looking at it again, there are some advantages. For one thing, it is probably more aesthetically pleasing. You can use coloured fonts, and more importantly, include pictures, which add greatly to it’s look and usefulness. I’ve always been old-fashioned and merely laughed at the thought of keeping my Magickal journal on the computer; but now I’m not so sure. But the main thing is to always keep a record of your Magick. I can go back years and see exactly what I was up to, and with the wisdom of a little more age, see where I went wrong, and where I went right.
In my next post, I will take this subject a step further by actually creating a servitor, going through all of the steps that I would use, and showing exactly how I would add the entry into my Magickal journal.
